Jillian Melanson started with the team in January 2019 as Director of Discipleship. Always one for adventure, she is excited to see where the Lord will take her on this new journey. Originally from Oakland, and later Woodstock New Brunswick, Jillian left her home town to study Business and Religious studies at Atlantic Baptist University in 2008. It did not take long for her to fall in love with Moncton and the surrounding area; so, after graduation in 2012, she chose to stay and find work in the city. The following year, her and Zachary Melanson met and began dating shortly after that. Married in 2015, the two lived in the city but both felt drawn to the Hillsborough area. After a year of prayer and searching, Jillian and Zachary Melanson moved to the are in the fall of 2016 where they quickly found a home at both their house on Academy and Hillsborough Baptist Church. Outside of the church, they both enjoy hiking, camping, and the outdoors but Jillian also likes travelling, eating out, and her pet parrot BooBoo.

Over the past year and a half I have had the pleasure of preparing and presenting countless pieces of media for Hillsborough Baptist Church and acting as the primary stream and zoom manager for our Sunday morning services and special events.

When it comes to weekly production you will usually see my handiwork in various places: countdown timers, announcements, scripture readings, photography, specialty videos, and the occasional music or lyric video to name a few.

It’s difficult to encapsulate everything that is involved with my work, but here’s a taste: Planning, pre-production, scripting, lighting, directing, filming, audio-engineering, video editing and effects, photography and photo editing, organization, online analytics, channel management for YouTube which includes name planning, playlists, scheduling, and so many other behind-the-scenes tasks that, while not always big or obvious, require training and comprehension.

It is my pleasure to assist Pastor Chad in improving our online-digital experience on all our platforms, including Facebook, YouTube, Zoom, and our in-house services and activities.

If you have called the church, I have been that voice sometimes on the other end of the phone that is here to help you. If you have come into the building, I may be in the office doing work for the church, pastors or one of the boards/committees or you may see me laughing at Pastor Geoff and Pastor Chad’s wonderful humor. LOL!

I absolutely love serving alongside our finance team. They are very knowledgeable and if they do not know the answer they will help you find it out. I serve on the Finance Board and help make sure all of the bills are paid, payroll is done, and ledgers are completed. I have learned that pens & liquid paper are better replaced with pencils & erasers.

The past few years God has taught me a lot while serving Him at HBC. I have found more courage to be who I am in Christ which has given me freedom to be a child of God. Through courage and freedom I have been able to have more Faith, pray more & that has taught me to “Be still”, and know that He is God; He will be exalted among the nations, He will be exalted in the earth.”. (Psalm 46:10).

All in all God not only has taught me to have the courage, freedom, faith and to pray more but He has also shown me that through all things in life to enjoy Him and have Fun.

Brenda Hawkes, Prayer Coordinator

Brenda has been championing prayer for many years since accepting Jesus as her Saviour in 1994. While attending special meetings at Hillsborough Baptist Church in 2005, with guest speaker Gerhardt DuToit from Canadian Revival Fellowship, she sensed a deeper call to corporate prayer. Following, while attending a meeting of The Maritime House of Prayer, and upon hearing their desire to see lighthouses of prayer throughout the Maritimes, she & her husband, David, began leading Community Days of Prayer (originally called Tides of Revival) in churches along Route 114, for several years.  She has also served as co-chair with David, of Hillsborough Baptist's Prayer Committee and then chair, for a number of years before stepping into the role of Prayer Coordinator.

Currently, she is team lead of a regional prayer movement called Rising Tide, a grassroots movement towards spiritual awakening and growing in intimacy with God. Rising Tide is an interdenominational subcommittee of the Albert Association of Baptist Churches.

As part of her journey, her heart’s desire is to see the greater church, and more specifically, Hillsborough Baptist, be “A House of Prayer”:  Isaiah 56:7, Matthew 21:13, Mark 11:17, Luke 19:46. As prayer coordinator, she will be working with Pastor Geoff and the dedicated prayer team towards this goal, and to see our church grow in more intimacy with Our Lord.
