Air Support

7-ac130-angel-flareA bullet whizzes over your head to smack into the dirt behind you. You hug your rifle a little tighter in your foxhole as you hear the screams of the enemy forces charging towards you. Their baleful screams and tromping boots put an ice cold fear in your heart.

You pull your helmet down into place and steady yourself. You take position and ready your weapon. The tide of enemy forces is overwhelming and you know you’re done for, but you determine in your soul to go down fighting.

Suddenly someone jumps into your  foxhole with you.  It’s the LT (lieutenant).  He looks at you with a grin. “It’s time,” he says, “to call in the air support.”  Suddenly you remember that you’ve been carrying with you all along the communication device that has the power to call in air support! The LT grabs the receiver and dials in High Command calling for an air strike. The enemy is about to have a bad day!

In the midst of being under fire it is so easy to forget a few things.

  1. We are not alone
  2. We are not meant to handle the enemy alone
  3. We can call in air support whenever we need to.

First off we are not called to take on the enemy forces by ourselves. We are soldiers set in squads with specific missions and are to expect resistance when we are on the right path. Resistance is likely to be heavy. Lone Rangers don’t stand a chance. Even the Lone Ranger had Tonto.

Secondly, we need each other. If you are a christian who has bought into the half truth that you can be a Christian and not go to church you are in a precarious position. You have been isolated like a deer from the herd by a pack of wolves. Where is your support? The Church was Jesus’ idea and despite warts and all we need to be part of a body and involved with a mission (Faith without works is dead James 2:20).

In the book of Jude we see something really weird. The Arch Angel Micheal refuses to rebuke Satan… wasn’t Mike the guy who drove him out of Heaven? It’s not like he couldn’t take Satan on, it’s a matter of submission and understanding of the General’s orders. Humans are fallen creatures and are not capable of taking on the enemy all by ourselves. We need each other, each other’s prayers, and intervention by the General of the Angel Hosts (Lord Sabaoth) Jesus Himself. Please notice the angelic quality of the smoke in the pictures.

Thirdly, we can call on God whenever we want, but remembering point 1 & 2 we have to remember that there is power in prayer, but even more in grouped prayer. (Though one may be overpowered, two can defend themselves.  A cord of three strands is not quickly broken. Ecclesiastes 4:12) Don’t just call on air support for yourself by yourself, get your close friends involved in praying for you. There is a prayer chain link on this website don’t hesitate to use it.

We all have our dilemmas, or that one sin we can’t seem to shake. Whether it be finacial, social, emotional, sexual, etc. you need to ask yourself “Am I trying to handle it by myself?” Confession  and humility before a friend is powerful when calling on Air Support. Notice the plural intent of the following verse. ac-130_gunship

24 “Or if Your people Israel are defeated before an enemy because they have sinned against You, and return and confess Your name, and pray and make supplication before You in this temple, 25 then hear from heaven and forgive the sin of Your people Israel, and bring them back to the land which You gave to them and their fathers. (IIChronicles 6:24,25)

Stop trying to do it all on your own. Let someone else in and call in the Air Support
